Searching by License Plate

TheThis article describes the Search by Plate optionfeature, a powerful tool for locating vehicles within the system. It allows Administratorsadministrators to locatequickly vehicles,identify a vehicle's owner, review its permit and viewviolation history, and perform related actions, all from a single interface. This guide is intended for OPS-COM administrators and enforcement personnel.

 

Setup & Configuration

This feature is a standard part of the vehicle management module and does not require any special configuration. Its results are drawn from existing user, vehicle, permit, and violation data in the system.

 

Using this Feature

The page is divided into two parts: the search panel for entering your criteria, and the results list where you can review vehicle details,details and violationstake associatedaction.

Quick Steps:Search
  1. Hover

    In the main menu, hover over User Management, then hover over Vehicles., Clickand onclick Search by Plate.

  2. Enter your criteria into one or more of the following search criteriafields:

    • Plate: The full or partial license plate number.

    • Make: The manufacturer of the vehicle (Plate,e.g., Make,Honda, Type,Ford).

      Colour)
    • Type: The body style of the vehicle (e.g., Sedan, SUV).

      If
    • Colour: The primary color of the vehicle.

  3. Use the following options to refine your search:

    • Enable the Fuzzy Search checkbox if you onlyare haveusing a partial plate enablenumber.

      Fuzzy Search. Optionally, set a Date Range.
    • Click Search to search for the vehicle.
    • To search only for Electric Vehicles you can enable

      Enable the Electric Vehicle checkbox.

      click on History Icon on the far left. Click on the Person Icon person.pngto view the owner of the vehicles contact information.
    • To view the vehicle details click on the Plate Icon   which is located next to the History Icon.
    • To enter a new violation click the Plus Icon Plus.png on the far right. Fill in the related fields then click Record This Violation. To add additional options, click the Toggle More Options button.

    • Click on a user's Username to edit their Basic Profile Information.
    • To email a user click on the Email Icon mail.png located next to their username.

    • To view violations and incidents click on the Number Icon. Violations will be to the left of the Plus Icon and Incidents to the right.
    • Temporary permit histories can be viewed under Pay Station.
Step-by-Step Instructions: 
  1. Access the Search by Plate Menu: Hover over User Management then Vehicles. Click on Search by Plate.
  2. Enter search criteria (Plate, Make, Type, Colour). If you only have a partial plate enable Fuzzy Search. Optionally, setSelect a Date Range. Theto system will searchfilter for vehiclesLPR matchingevents partialor data.pay Example:station Apermits partial plate of APVK???, color Grey, and type Hatchback. The system will show results like APVK189 andwithin a Payspecific Station record for APVK123.
  3. Search for a Vehicle: Once you're in the Search by Plate screen, you can search using the following criteria:
  • Plate: Enter the full or partial plate number (supports fuzzy search).
  • Make: Search by vehicle make (e.g., Honda, Ford, Tesla).
  • Type: Choose the vehicle type (e.g., hatchback, sports car, compact).
  • Colour: Enter the vehicle's color (e.g., Red, Blue, Silver).

    4. Date Range: Optional. This filters results based on Pay station parking and LPR events.timeframe. Leave itthis blank to search the vehicle's entire         history.

  •     5. Launch the Search: Click the Search button to runexecute the search.

    Interpreting Search Results:Results and Available Actions

    The search results will showappear in a list of users with matching plate information below the search box.form. Here’sEach whatrow provides youinformation canand doquick-access next:icons for a specific vehicle.

    • Click the 

      History Icon: Click to view the vehicle’vehicle's history.complete history, including LPR scans and past permit associations.

    • User Profile Icon: Click to navigate directly to the owner's user profile page.

    • PersonVehicle Details Icon: located in the HistoryClick to editview the user’s profile.

    • Click the Vehicle Icon to see moredetailed information about the vehicle associateditself, withsuch as make, model, and year.

    • Username: The linked username of the plate.vehicle's registered owner. Clicking it also navigates to the user's profile.

    • Click the

      PlusEmail Icon: Click to enteropen a new email composition window addressed to the vehicle owner.

    • Violations Count: A number indicating how many violations are associated with this vehicle. Click the number to view the list of violations.

    • Incidents Count: A number indicating how many incidents are associated with this vehicle. Click the number to view the list of incidents.

    • Add Violation Icon: Click to immediately open the violation issuance screen for this plate.vehicle.

    • Click the Envelope Icon to email the user.
    • Click the Number of Violations to view/edit previous violations associated with the vehicle.
    • Click the Number of Incidents to view/edit previous incidents related to the vehicle.

      8. Pay Station Parking Status: Displays theinformation user'sabout temporary permitpermits purchased from a pay station for this license plate.

    Warning: Be cautious when using the Add Violation button. Ensure you have identified the correct vehicle and user from the results list before issuing a new ticket to prevent errors.

    Information Box A single license plate may appear in multiple rows if it is registered to different users (e.g., a family) or has a separate pay station history ifnot theylinked boughtto a permit.registered user. Review all results carefully to ensure you are acting on the correct record.

     

    Best Practices & Considerations

    • Use Fuzzy Search for partial plates. If you are unsure of the full plate number or its exact sequence, enabling this option will perform a broader search and significantly improve your chances of finding the vehicle.

    • Use the Date Range filter primarily when investigating recent LPR sightings or temporary pay station activity. For a complete history of a vehicle's permits and violations, leave the date range fields blank.
