The Validator - a Parking Validation Utility

YouThe Validator tool allows administrators to quickly issue temporary parking validations for specific lot zones based on vehicle license plates. Its primary purpose is to help manage guest or temporary parking permissions efficiently, ensuring compliant access for authorized visitors without requiring a full permit purchase. This article is intended for OPS-COM administrators and designated parking validators.

Setup and Configuration

Before staff can use the validation utility, administrators must createconfigure the appropriate roles, assign users, and ensure lots are properly zoned.

Configuring Roles and Users

  1. Create a new role tospecifically applyfor thevalidation permissionsstaff correctly.(e.g., "Parking Validator"). For moredetailed informationinstructions, refer to thisthe articleManaging on managing rolesRoles and permissionsPermissions. page.

  2. In our example, we created a role entitled Parking Validator.  The new role will appear inAdd the list of roles.

    You must add the "Create Temp Permit Entries" permission to thethis rolenew you just created.role.

  3. Create or edit an Adminadministrative user profile for the staff member who will manage validations.

  4. Assign the parkingnewly validation.created validation role to the user.

Configuring Lot Zones

  1. Hover over Parking Management and click Lot Administration then Pricing & Lot Admin.

  2. Click the lotsspecific thatlot you intendname to useopen withits settings.

  3. Click the Parking Validator utility.

    Note: These zones have to be set in the lots you wish to validate. In Lot Administration go to the Zone & Location tab toand select the zone associated with the lot.

image.pngThe zones assigned to the validator's administrative profile must match the zones configured within the specific lots for the tool to function correctly.

AccessingUsing this Feature

The validation tool can be accessed via the Validatordesktop Toolportal, and the resulting permissions are verifiable in real-time by enforcement officers using the Android handheld application.

Creating a Validation Record (Desktop)

  1. Log in asto thisthe user.OPS-COM Onlyadmin oneportal. menuUsers itemwith entitledrestricted, 'validation-only access will only see the Create Validations' willmenu be available.

  2. The following screen represents the view of the validation tool that would be used by admins who have restricted access to the OPSCOM system and would have access to the Validation Tool Only.

    Click

    The Validate Parking screen will appear as below, click 'Create Validation Records'. to open the utility.

  4. FromEnter thisthe pagerequired you can:

    1. Enterlicense plate number(s)numbers into the provided field.

    2. Enter a comment for record-keeping purposes.

    3. Select

      Click the lot zone indrop-down whichmenu youand wantchoose tothe validatearea where the vehicle is permitted to park.

    4. Select the valid date range for the permission to be in effect.

    5. Set the valid time frame by selecting the appropriate hourly blocks (e.g., selecting blocks from 7 AM to 7 PM).

    6. Select the specific days of the week you wish the validation to be in effect.

      Click the ValidValidate Time Frame (These blocks represent a full hour. In our example below we are setting the Valid times between 7am and 7pm).

    8. Select the Valid Days you wish to have the validation in effect.
    9. Click Validatebutton to apply the validation.permission.

    How

    Viewing Do Temporary Validated Parkers AppearValidations on Android Handhelds

    Enforcement officers can verify these temporary permissions directly from the Handheldfield.

    Devices
    1. View the active vehicle list. Parkers who are validated through this tool will appear as a "Temp Parker" on the Android version of OPS-COM

    2. By tapping onTap the specific plate number youto will getopen an expanded view with further detailed information. In our example, we seedetailing the parkervalidator-created haspermission aand the associated lot zone.

    3. Tap the green Validator created permissionrectangle to parktrigger ina pop-up showing the Dayvalidation Care Lot Zone.

      To see even finer detail on this permission, tap the green rectangle labelled Validator - Day Care.  A pop up will appear showing a reference number and the Expiryexact expiry date of the permission.


    Best Practices and Considerations

    • image.pngRestricted Access: Create a dedicated, restricted role for staff who only need to validate parking (such as receptionists or event coordinators). Limiting their access to the validation tool prevents unauthorized changes to broader system settings.

    • ATime closerFrame look:Blocks: Remember that the time frame selection blocks represent full hours. Always verify your selected blocks completely cover the intended visit duration to avoid accidental citations.
