Account Creation Preferences
You can configure your User Portal to either allow immediate auto-login upon registration or require email verification before a user can fully access their account. Understanding and setting this preference is key to managing your user base effectively.
Immediate Login
This method allows users to instantly access their account upon registration without needing to verify their email address.
Reasons to use immediate login:
- Limited email access: It's ideal for situations where users might not have immediate access to their email. This could include shared computer environments like a kiosk setup or for users who don't have cell phones and therefore limited access to email on the go.
- Reduced friction for specific user groups: If your target audience is less tech-savvy or if you want to minimize any barriers to entry, immediate login can provide a smoother, quicker onboarding experience.
Email Verification
This method requires users to click a verification link sent to their registered email address before they can fully access their account.
Reasons to use email verification:
- Verifying legitimate users: This is generally the preferred method because it immediately confirms that the registration is from a real user with a valid email address. This significantly reduces the likelihood of bot registrations or fake accounts.
- Account security and recovery: Email verification establishes a reliable communication channel for password resets, account recovery, and important notifications, enhancing overall account security.
- Maintaining data integrity: By ensuring valid email addresses, you improve the quality and accuracy of your user data.
